"Unsurprisingly, Tesla comes back to us with the class and charm we know him, through a calm and bewitching Rock album."

Since his return to business in 2000, Tesla takes its time. For proof, this "Simplicity" is only the 3rd original album released by the band since then. And the least we can say is that the Sacramento 5 did not use this time to innovate.

No cause for alarm though, because, as always with Tesla, quality is there. The band delivers the same Rock mixed with Blues and carried by powerful guitars, all enhanced by a high quality production and a very modern sound that fully pays tribute to the compositions.

We can still notice a slight slowing down of the tempi and a propensity to favour quiet songs. So even when the band brings out the big guitars and the big sound, as is the case with 'MP3' and 'Time Bomb', the rhythm remains rather slow and heavy. And it's only on 'Flip Side', 'Break Of Down', and parts of 'Ricochet', 'So Divine' and the finale of 'Time Bomb', that the tempo gets a bit excited.

The compositions oscillate between calm ballads and heavy rock. We always enjoy listening to Jeff Keith's raspy and very special voice, as well as the magnificent touch of Frank Hannon, who is always as efficient on guitar. And in fact, the charm of this album, very homogeneous, works without difficulty. The compositions all have the same musical identity, the same sensitivity. At most, we can give a special mention to 'So Divine' and its wonderful guitar passage, to 'Burnout To Fade' with its touching vocals, and to the more energetic and classical 'MP3'.

If a few more rhythm changes wouldn't have been superfluous - a break, followed by an acceleration in a track like 'Honesty' would certainly have been the best effect and would have given the song a bit more relief - Tesla offers us an album that reflects the image of its title: simple and of high quality. So let's not be picky and let's enjoy it...

PROGRESSIVE ROCK - For this tenth opus, IQ spoiled us by offering us beautiful compositions in a rather dark register that suits the band well.

MELODIC HARD ROCK - "Tearing Down The Walls" remains an indispensable album for all Hard Rock fans, both muscular and melodic, with that extra touch typical of Scandinavian bands.
