Confirming its ardour, Rage offered its fourteenth album, "Ghosts", at the end of 1999 while it was touring to promote "XIII". In spite of a very busy schedule, the band found the time to write one of the most outstanding records of its discography. However nothing was won in advance since the formation burst out during the recording. Peavy found himself alone after the departure of the Efthimiadis brothers, of Sven Fischer but also of his orchestral organiser Christian Wolff. Replaced at short notice by Victor Smolski, an ultra talented Russian guitarist.
Rage offers us here his most personal but also most accessible record. In spite of the difficulties to finalize it, the group, accompanied by the Lingua Mortis Orchestra, is going to propose a record of high level on which the assembly with the traditional is going to be done in a perfect osmosis. Concept album on death, love and resurrection "Ghosts" is a jewel of melody which borrows as much from heavy metal as from Queen for the grandiose and orchestral side.
Very homogeneous the disc is characterized by songs focused on the melodies. From 'Beginning Of The End' to 'Back In Time' through 'Wash My Sins Away' or 'More Than A Lifetime', the band reveals a facet that we did not expect, being charming, always dark but with a sensitive touch. The orchestrations make a place of choice bringing an intense epic force. And Rage touches the sublime with two ballads, 'Vanished In Haze' and 'Tomorrow's Yesterday', two pearls with unforgettable melodies and great choruses. But the big winner of this record is clearly Peavy, whose singing has never been so deep, with an emotion and subtlety that we didn't expect from him.
With "Ghosts", Rage signs its most moving, most symphonic and also most wrought record. Now surrounded by new musicians, Peavy Wagner will have the heavy task to give a follow-up to this very beautiful album. But this is another story... - Official website
