"A concept album in the pure tradition of progressive metal, "In Search Of Truth" is an intense experience and may be one of Evergrey's best albums."

After two albums that went relatively unnoticed, Evergrey comes back with its krissprolls but especially with a concept album in the pure tradition of progressive metal, the story of a man who is looking for the truth about what is happening to him. He is afraid of the night, of the light, surrounded by darkness. To find out what is wrong he goes to a hypnotist who will take him back to his past and maybe even further.
Tom Englund's voice is THE voice that this group needed. Rough and broken, deep and passionate, warm and full of emotion. It brings enormously to the theme and the atmosphere. Musically In "Search Of Truth" fits the story for our greatest pleasure. The riffs are nervous and aggressive, interspersed with passages of keyboards to blow and the solo guitar to perform wonders. The piano has not been forgotten and even has the luxury to fill an entire track with vocals ("State Of Paralysis"). And the icing on the cake: the choirs... As soon as they appear, it is an ecstasy, unexpected snippets of opera metal that make you shiver. To be aware of Evergrey's talent and the quality of this album, just listen to "rulers of the mind".
"Search Of Truth" is not an album that you can put in the background because it will not do anything. The best way to appreciate it is to listen to it with headphones, volume and high bass. I have rarely heard an album giving me so much emotion (with Metropolis part II of Dream Theater) but it is true that because of its relative intensity this album could become quite tedious over time. Yet it would be a shame to miss just the middle of the grandiose "Different World" or to miss the end of the story. - Official website
