Should "progressive" music be fundamentally original? Is it really in his DNA? When it was created (at the beginning of the 1970s, let us say), the groups and artists belonging to this musical movement had the ambition (excessive for some) to mix genres (classical, jazz, contemporary music and rock) to create a new one, but this ambition (pretension?) dried up a few years later and finally, few progressive groups can be said to be still innovative today.

Progressive rock is therefore more the perpetuation of a heritage than an experimental music that is still being sought. With this in mind, when we talk about a band or a progressive rock artist, we often have to summarize them more or less in the sum of their influences. As for Airbag, for their third album, the Norwegian band still sounds like a mix of Pink Floyd (the hushed atmosphere) and Porcupine Tree (the vocals).

The album starts well with a short introduction "Surveillance part 1", very symphonic and powerful, of which we will find the most developed part at the end of the album. In the middle are more or less short pieces, including a "Redemption" in a Porcupine Tree vein (the repetitive bass line) that will probably delight the fans of this band.

The album is well produced, the musicians are of a good level, no lack of taste is to be deplored but we are looking in vain for the spark, the song that will make you stop and press the "replay" button. It is necessary to wait for the arrival of the last quarter of an hour of "Surveillance part 2-3" to find really exciting passages (the repetition of the theme of the introduction) but nothing in the end that the Gilmour's band could not have created if it had continued to play even nowadays.

No revolution with Airbag, if you liked the previous albums, you can easily get this new opus. Progressive fans who want to be pushed in their musical comfort will certainly go elsewhere, but can we blame them?
