Rage was formed in 1984 by bassist and vocalist Peter "Peavy" Wagner, guitarist Jochen Schroeder and drummer Alf Meyerratken in Herne, Germany. Inspired by the young speed metal movement, the band quickly made a name for themselves with their energetic live performances. In 1986, they released their first album, "Reign of Fear", which laid the foundations for their aggressive, fast-paced musical style.
In 1987, Rage changed their line-up, adding guitarist Manni Schmidt and drummer Chris Efthimiadis. This proved to be a turning point for the band. The 1987 album 'Execution Guaranteed' marked the beginning of Rage's evolution towards a more refined sound, incorporating elements of thrash and power metal. Subsequent albums, including "Perfect Man" (1988) and "Secrets in a Weird World" (1989), cemented the band's status as a major force in European metal. The album "Reflections of a Shadow", released in 1990, testified to their musical maturity and the diversity of their influences.
Rage then began to change personnel on a regular basis, leading to a period of uncertainty for the band. Undeterred, Peavy Wagner continued to experiment and explore with albums such as "Black in Mind" (1995) and "End of All Days" (1996) reflecting a more melodic and diverse approach to their music.
Rage continued to evolve in the 2000s, incorporating symphonic and orchestral elements. Albums such as "Ghosts" (1999) and "Unity" (2002), which saw the arrival of multi-instrumentalist Victor Smolski, enabled Rage to return to the forefront of the music scene after a few difficult years.
Thereafter, Rage released a steady stream of fairly classic albums, firmly rooted in the band's preferred style, abandoning the symphonic aspects in favour of more direct heavy metal. "Resurrection Day" is their last album to date.
