Angra is a Brazilian progressive metal and power metal band formed in São Paulo in 1991 by guitarist Rafael Bittencourt and drummer Marco Antunes, soon joined by vocalist André Matos, guitarist Kiko Loureiro, and bassist Luis Mariutti.
Their debut album, "Angels Cry", released in 1993, was a huge success, not only in Brazil, but also internationally, bringing the band worldwide recognition. The album featured epic songs such as 'Carry On' and 'Time', which quickly caught the attention of metal fans worldwide.
Following the release of their debut album, Angra toured extensively, sharing the stage with renowned bands such as Slayer and Helloween. Their second album, "Holy Land" (1996), was another major success, with its unique blend of metal, Brazilian folk and classical music. The album cemented Angra's reputation as a pioneer of the style and established the band on the international metal scene.
In 2000, Angra released "Fireworks", an album that marked an evolution in their sound, incorporating more modern and experimental elements. However, shortly after the album's release, artistic differences led to the departure of André Matos, Luis Mariutti and Ricardo Confessori, leaving Rafael Bittencourt and Kiko Loureiro as the only founding members of the band.
Despite these line-up changes, Angra continued to produce high-quality music. They recruited singer Eduardo Falaschi and bassist Felipe Andreoli to replace the departing members. The band released several critically acclaimed albums, such as "Rebirth" (2001), "Temple of Shadows" (2004) and "Aqua" (2010), which consolidated their position as one of the most respected metal bands in Brazil, if not the world.
In 2018, Angra celebrated their 26th anniversary with a special album entitled "ØMNI", which was well received by fans and critics alike. It was followed by "Cycles Of Pain" in 2023, their latest album to date, in the continuity of their previous output.
