TORPEDO - 13.02.2024
Hailing from Bangor, Northern Ireland, Two Door Cinema Club burst onto the indie-pop scene in 2007 with their self-titled debut EP. The band was formed when classmates Alex Trimble (vocals, rhythm guitar), Sam Halliday (lead guitar) and Kevin Baird (bass, synthesizers) discovered a shared passion for music. Their early material, heavily influenced by the likes of The Cure and Phoenix, blended indie rock with synth-pop influences, earning them comparisons to the likes of Franz Ferdinand and The Killers.

Their 2010 debut album, Tourist History, catapulted them to international acclaim. Hits like 'What You Know' and 'This Is the Life' dominated alternative radio stations and earned them critical acclaim. Their joyous live performances became their trademark, cementing their status as a must-see band on the festival circuit.

With their second album, 'Beacon', in 2012, Two Door Cinema Club offered a more mature sound, incorporating funk and disco influences while retaining their characteristic upbeat style. Singles like "Ironic" and "Changing of the Seasons" showed a band still heavily inspired by pop.

Their third album, 'Gameshow' (2016), marked a new stage of experimentation. With darker lyrical themes and a more diverse sonic palette, it reflected the band's personal growth and evolving musical tastes. Although less commercially successful than 'Tourist History', it allowed Two Door Cinema Club to assert themselves and try new things.

2019 saw their return with 'False Alarm', a return to their more upbeat, synth-pop influenced roots. Although it was a commercial success, it received mixed reviews that compared it unfavourably to their previous work.

With 'Keep On Smiling' (2022), Two Door Cinema Club emphasised optimism and positivity, as evidenced by the summery soundscapes and hopeful lyrics. Although some saw it as reminiscent of their previous work, it confirmed their ability to produce catchy, enjoyable anthems with the single 'Lucky' in particular.

During the 2022 tour of Brazil, Two Door Cinema Club performed with an unknown singer, David Clements, in place of Alex Trimble, who had not been authorised to enter Brazil because he had not been vaccinated against COVID-19.
