Duff McKagan, real name Michael Andrew McKagan, was born on February 5, 1964 in Seattle, Washington. He began playing music at an early age, first taking an interest in guitar before turning to bass. He quickly developed his musical skills and began playing in local Seattle bands.

In 1985, Duff McKagan was recruited by guitarist Slash to join Guns N' Roses, which was forming in Los Angeles. Alongside Axl Rose, Slash, Izzy Stradlin and Steven Adler, McKagan helped shape the band's unique sound and became a key member.

Guns N' Roses' first studio album, "Appetite for Destruction", released in 1987, was a huge commercial and critical success. It propelled the band to the top of the rock scene and is now considered one of the best albums of all time. Duff McKagan brought his powerful bass and songwriting talents to such iconic songs as 'Sweet Child o' Mine' and 'Welcome to the Jungle'.

During his career with Guns N' Roses, Duff McKagan also contributed to the albums "G N' R Lies" (1988), "Use Your Illusion I" (1991) and "Use Your Illusion II" (1991). The band enjoyed phenomenal success, selling out stadiums around the world and becoming one of the most influential bands on the rock scene.

Following the departure of Slash and many other original Guns N' Roses members, Duff McKagan left the band in 1997. He then pursued a solo musical career, forming the band Loaded. He has also collaborated with other renowned artists, including Velvet Revolver, a supergroup formed with Slash, Dave Kushner, Matt Sorum and Scott Weiland.

In addition to his musical career, Duff McKagan is also an accomplished author. He published an autobiography entitled "It's So Easy (and Other Lies)" in 2011, in which he recounts his tumultuous experiences with Guns N' Roses and his personal struggles with alcohol and drug addiction.

In 2016, Duff McKagan made his triumphant return to Guns N' Roses on the "Not in This Lifetime... Tour", reuniting the band's classic line-up. The tour was a huge success.

Duff McKagan continues to be active in the music industry, both as a member of Guns N' Roses and in his personal projects, including his latest solo album, "Lighthouse", released in 2023.
