Core band members Johnny Hagel (drums), Tommy Karlsson (guitar) and Peter Furulid (bass) formed Sorcerer in 1988. Their early songs, infused with elements of traditional heavy metal and progressive rock, set the scene for their future success.
In 1989, Sorcerer released their first demo, "Anno 1503", which quickly sold over 1,500 copies and received rave reviews from the metal press, with chart-toppers 'Born With Fear' and 'Queen In Black'. Their second demo, released in 1992 and described as more mature, was also well received,
Despite their new-found popularity, Sorcerer disbanded in 1992, citing personal and musical differences.
In 2010, Sorcerer was resurrected at the invitation of Hammer of Doom festival founder Oliver Weinsheimer. Johnny Hagel and Anders Engberg (vocals) reunited for the festival, joined by Kristian Niemann (guitar) and Robert Iversen (drums). The reunion was a resounding success, rekindling interest in the band and paving the way for their official comeback.
In 2011, Sorcerer finally released their long-awaited debut album, "In the Shadow of the Ancients". The mix of grandiose melodies, powerful vocals and rhythms recaptures the essence of their early demos while showing the band's evolution. Album after album followed, including "The Crown of the Fallen" (2013), "The Dominion of the Serpent" (2016) and "Lamenting of the innoncent" (2020), always faithful to a genre initiated by Candlemass. Their latest opus, "Reign of The Reaper", is no exception, a marvel of hazy, elegant heavy doom.
