The long hot days of summer are now far behind us, but the autumn has been full of particularly exciting album releases, thus reserving us a TOP WAVES that is just as exciting.

Before starting, let's have a look at the French charts in the genres that Music Waves likes (source Snep).

The new Imagine Dragons reaches the 11th place with "Mercury - Act 1". Iron Maiden's "Senjutsu" is at number 18 after having entered directly at number 2 the week before. Although 121st, the winner of the last Eurovision Maneskin resists by maintaining a 17th week of presence in the ranking. We will also underline the 178th position of Hans Zimmer who enters the ranking with the soundtrack of the new version of Dune or the 200th place of "Juno to Jupiter" by Vangelis.

TOP WAVES - ALL GENRES

Not surprisingly, it is the figurehead of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, Iron Maiden, who wins this September's TOP WAVES.

"A tribute to Japan, this seventeenth album of the British legend is in the line of its predecessor "The Book of Souls" offering a progressive, melodic and grandiloquent heavy metal always as enjoyable" (Noise)

IRON MAIDEN Senjutsu

In second place, we find one of the spearheads of the new "progressive metal" scene...  Progressive metal in quotes because "since "Pitfalls" in 2019, Leprous has entered its third life, that of a muscular and elegant pop."

"Aphelion" is a dark and melancholic album, with a cold beauty like the point of the elliptical orbit farthest from the sun, which is aphelion. Without a doubt the must-have album of the fall." (ProgRacer)

LEPROUS Aphelion

And it is the delivery of the year of Neal Morse which is placed at the third place of this podium made in Music Waves.

"As he has become accustomed to, The Neal Morse Band is not stingy in music since, for the third time in a row, he offers us a double album. "The first one is a collection of relatively short tracks that stripes different musical styles, pop-rock, hard rock, AOR-like and of course, some prog and the second one
with two long suites, plays the progressive rock card, alternating sung and instrumental passages. A new success of The Neal Morse Band which promises many hours of pleasure in perspective." (Corto 1809)

TOP WAVES METAL

You won't be surprised to read that the metal declination of the TOP WAVES is dominated by the latest Iron Maiden and Leprous who crush the competition.

In these conditions, it is the new Dee Snider who takes a place in the sun by recovering the third place of the podium.

"Leave A Scar" is a remarkable record, a perfect balance between classicism and modernity that confirms the great form of an extraordinary singer" (Noise)

TOP WAVES ROCK

As for the metal ranking, Neal Morse's last album dominates outrageously the rock TOP WAVES. But then who to complete the podium?

It's The Night Flight Orchestra who takes the second place.

"Aeromantic II" is the direct continuation of the first opus of the same name released in 2020, and it continues to trace the road imagined by Björn Strid's band almost 10 years ago. The one that will revisit the classic rock of the 70s and 80s to bring back the glamour, the ecstasy and above all the fun." (Eastwood)

THE NIGHT FLIGHT ORCHESTRA Aeromantic Ii

And it's not one but two albums that we find at the third place.

The first of them is the latest Pat O'May to date. "After celebrating his 23 years of career with a colorful live album, "One Night In Breizhland", he is back with a studio album that is a success from start to finish. (Newf)

PAT O'MAY Welcome To A New World

And what could be more natural than to see in third place also, the last album of Big Big Train, "become a reference of the English progressive rock. Born at the beginning of the 90s, the band is very close to blowing its thirtieth candle.

"As much melodic and accessible as progressive and technical, this "Common Ground" seems to have found the perfect balance between two worlds with sometimes contradictory characteristics." (Darialys)
