If the rainy months follow one another, it is not the case with the TOP WAVES, always so indecisive and confusing. If last month, they logically plebiscited the very expected last album of Sylvan "One to Zero", this last one preceded in a totally unpredictable way "The Denisovan" of Before & Apace.

And for this month of June, the selection is still as eclectic as ever and it's hard to pick out a natural winner between the return of the progressive metal precursors of the end of the 90's with the latest Poverty's No Crime or Wolverine or the supporters of a more traditional progressive rock like Karmamoi, Millenium or Cast without counting the sure values of any musical horizon like Texas, The Offspring, or Helloween, the rising values like Pop Evil, Vola, Levara and finally, the French Conquerors, Ekphrasis, Pathfinders, Shewolf or Sterpi. ..

But before looking precisely at the poll of this TOP WAVES, let's see the official French ranking (source Snep).
We have to wait for the 39th position to see a "rock" album with the Eurovision winner Maneskin. Texas and "Hi" are at number 48 and further back, Gojira keeps "Fortitude" at number 120. Helloween's self-titled album is 143rd, The Black Keys' "Delta Kream" is 154th, AC/DC's "Power Up" is still there at 180th for its 32nd week in the chart!

GENERAL TOP WAVES JUNE 2021

The Danes of Vola are the winners with their third album "Witness".

Not surprising when "even if perfection doesn't exist in music or anywhere else, the third album of the Danes, "Witness", comes very close to it".
And "if the influence of Meshuggah remains predominant on the heavy component of Vola's music, it is indeed the ghost of the late Porcupine Tree that hovers over the most atmospheric tracks:"
So much so that "with its clever mix of pop and metal, Vola stands out as a singular and definitively separate band and offers us with "Witness" a captivating album from start to finish, so much so that it quickly becomes obsessive. A pure jewel of modern metal.

VOLA Witness

In second place, we find Helloween and its self-titled album unlike any other. Indeed, "when in 2016 Helloween announced the return of Michael Kiske and Kai Hansen, fans thought they were dreaming. Egos were put aside and the miracle happened."
"Carried by musicians in perfect harmony, Helloween signs a brilliant record, a true masterpiece of melodic speed worthy of the Keeper era and the great records of the late 90s. Its reformation is a total success, worthy of Iron Maiden's with "Brave New World".

HELLOWEEN Helloween.

One year later, for the re-release of "Weird Interbreeding (White Edition)", "with a clearer and organic production that brings a real added value to the music of the French", Ekphrasis inherits the third place of the podium:
"Ekphrasis is the fusion of djent and jazz, metal prog and jazz rock. It is the meeting between Return To Forever and Periphery, between Frank Zappa and Animals As Leaders". "Weird Interbreeding" is "a true work of art that makes Ekphrasis the major revelation of the year in modern progressive metal".

TOP WAVES ROCK JUIN 2021

The albums of the General TOP WAVES are all metal affiliated bands, so it is without any clue that we discover the rock ranking.

At the first place of the podium, we find the new album of the leader of Alter Bridge, Myles Kennedy.

"Taking advantage of the forced settlement of the year 2020, Myles Kennedy has made his second record three years after "Year Of The Tiger".
"The Ides Of March" is quite different from its predecessor "Year Of The Tiger" in both its rock-centric content and its emotional tone that conveys positive vibes. With its collection of direct and melodic songs, "The Ides Of March" is a pleasant album to listen to, which reveals a little more of the talents of this generous and sensitive artist."

MYLES KENNEDY The Ides Of March

At the second place of the podium, sits the newcomer made in Frontiers Crowne, which as often consists of members of other hard melodic bands of the label.
If "supergroup announcements and promises of stellar casting" rarely go beyond the stage of promises, "it is not the case here. Fans of the style will find Kings In The North to be their new go-to album." (Lynott)

CROWNE Kings In The North

To close the podium, we find the tenth album of the Californians of The Offspring.

This "opus could have been a comeback smelling like a marketing stunt like many legendary bands did, but it's not. [...] When many bands this old have struggled to produce interesting content over the years, with a fresh and effective "album that is as excellent as it is unexpected, The Offspring confirm their status as indisputable masters of the punk-rock scene after a 35-year career."
(Darialys)
